The work I did

My previous understanding of the module was to design concepts for new interactions. Researching the current and future technologys. The concepts to be innovative and to apply such technologys wisely and approriately within the design.

The old module study guide I was studying from:

http://mercury.tvu.ac.uk/~sarah/CIIID/assessment.htm

Some of my previous research for this assumption module:

Its actually a chunk of good stuff, filtered through for only good articles, inventions and such.
Research from books, magazine and many websites.

Before starting my research, even before glancing at the module guide (the wrong one). I was a person who mocked wearables:
  • A waste of time and effort, ipod controls in your clothing, how unrecycleable, something bought on a whim, the industry taking it seriously is like them and robots, when will they give up trying to make then human and spend the money on new interactions.

But after my research my viewpoint changed, although I still came across clunky junk, there were so many useful wearable inventions, the same can be said of interaction design in general, theres alot of junk out there but some real good pieces too.

This intial research helped in the brainstorming process for ciid:

Some of the further ideas I had include:

  • An interactive wall/s for kids with disabilities, to teach and stimulate their minds/senses, that grows (increases in level) as they grow, a long term low level interaction, designed for children when they are by themselves, even to encourage movement, to include (colour, motion and sound). Can have different software for older users, no mobility, as something to keep their minds active and even designed to stir their emotions and imagination, with slight interaction, so they don't over excert themselves, my inspiration behind this variation from the main idea was from a 70s film 'Solent Green' a scene near the end (a must see).

  • Another idea was interactive greetings, interactive business cards and name tags. Think of the inticing of touch in interaction and the timeless ness of customization together to produce, an interactive unforgettable first impression, to show off your talents (design work) or imagery of your interests to show who you are.

  • Another idea was based on a wearable arm band (size similar to the ipod sport holder for the arm). A safety device for a child. It includes GPS and wifi to track the child once activated by the child, also sending an alert to the parent to a email address, mobile, landline. Including a device for the parent for to find the location. This might not be the newest idea, but my version puts the child in control, the child activates the alert, which switches GPS and alert sending on. The parent isnt spying on the child. Safety for the child intiated by the child. Oh and its not visible like other designs, so its not as open to theft. Also off of this idea I thought of a similar device to detect weapons and sends the child a vibration. Not for protection, but for awareness, to make the child feel safer, maybe as part of a belt buckle, like the previous, something not visible for theft, maybe part of clothing.

Hopefully I can apply or convert this research and brainstorming allong the lines of the currect module assessment (the right one).
